Picnics, babies, dinosaurs...oh, my!

We took a catered picnic (shout out to KFC, Chicken E and Sonic!) to Dinosaur Valley State Park this glorious July afternoon.  It was a little cloudy as we set up our picnic camp...then we heard some thunder...then Little Miss mentions she feels rain...but what's  a little rain shower in July?  Some welcome relief from the heat is what I say.  Until...

The drops got a lot bigger and a lot more frequent.  The girls, those that can walk fast enough to keep up with me anyway, headed for the car.  The blurry figure there is Papa, on a golf umbrella run.  He, Molly, Loverboy and Lolo all stuck it out at the picnic table.  Someone had to save the chicken tenders!

Lolo entertained us with her ability to get ALL of her toes, and good bit of her foot, into her mouth.

The girls enjoyed some rock climbing.

When it was all clear, we hoofed it down to the Paluxy for some wading with the dinosaur footprints...along with about fifty other people enjoying the cool, nicely flowing river.

At this point I  was content to stay ankle deep with the camera, watching the minnows frolick...but that river...it was calling to me.  Loverboy walked the camera back up to grandparent/baby base camp and I waded out to enjoy this Texas treasure--without slipping I'm proud to add.  Just after I decided to go all in and sit down on the rocks in the river to truly enjoy the moment, I remembered I was the only one who had no extra clothes along.  I still had a great time, soggy bottomed afternoon and all.

This is the BEST baby in the world to take into the great outdoors for an afternoon.  As long as you kept her full of Dr. Pepper she was just fine...kidding, Sunny, kidding.  It's water.  But she does get very interested when she sees a Sonic cup.
After the River Loving Trio got back, Molly, Papa and the littler girls called it day.  The Nockinbirds weren't far behind, but we drove around a little.  Loverboy wanted to look at the campgrounds.  He's funny like that.  I hope he has fun if he decides to go, 'cause it'll be alone.  Maybe I'd visit for the day...maybe not.

We stopped to look at some track casts as we were leaving.

Another great summer outing--not hurt in the least by dipped cones from Dairy Queen as we drove through Glen Rose.
